Tyler here. I did it. I got my MBA. For those of you who don't know what that is it's a Masters of Business Administration (a lot of people I told didn't know what that was). After I got my Bachelor's from Dixie in Business Administration I didn't want to return to school because I didn't think I'd need to or want to because of time, cost, and a bunch of other factors. I changed my mind when I saw my buddy Adam Madison (blog) during Christmastime in Hurricane and I asked him what he was up to. He said he got his MBA in 6 months and it only cost him $3,200. After I heard that I asked him where I signed up.
The school was Western Governers University (WGU). WGU is all online. They provide a competency-based education. That means in a nutshell that you don't have to spend time in class. If you know the material you can accelerate the time it takes to get your degree. You complete the tasks (basically research papers) given to you and it is pass fail. It is very uncommon for people to get their MBA in 6 months. There is a strong incentive to accelerate though because you pay based on how many semesters it takes you to finish. If you can do all the work in one semester, then you only pay for one semester. If it takes longer, you pay for another semester.
Here are some of the details:
Price: $3,395 ($3,250 tuition for one semester, $145 fee). Paid cash, no student loans.
Time: 177 days (5.83 months) 5 days to spare before my 6 month deadline!
Tasks (research papers, reports, etc.): 29
Approximate number of pages written: 350+
Classes:
- Human Resources
- Leadership
- E-Business
- Social Responsibility
- Organizational Management
- Financial Analysis
- Strategic Management
- Supply Chain
- Decision Analysis
- Risk Management
- Capstone Written Project
# of Sundays I Worked on Homework: 0 (I did have to meet once or twice online with teammates on Sunday, but that wasn't my choice)
This was very difficult and I spent most of my spare time working on this.
Probably at the end of this school year or sooner I'll start looking for a new job that will hopefully double or triple my current income. That's quite a return on a $3,395 investment.
If you're interested in WGU, click here and put my name and email and they'll waive the $65 application fee as well as send me a t-shirt for referring you. My email is tmurset @ yahoo.com
Anyway, what do you think?

No.
that is really impressive! I didn't know such a program existed! Mark has been 'getting his masters' for the past year and he still has another 6 months to go; I thought a year and a half's time was fast. 6 months - I've never heard of that! That's great you were able to do it this way. It's the best way to do anything - efficiently!! haha
Congrats, Ty! Very impressive! I hope you rake in the big bucks.
