Nasty...

Yesterday I went to take my parent's dog out. I had flip flops on, the dog (on a leash) in one hand, and was hold Ava (who was barefoot), in my arms. The dog goes nuts when we take him out, and loves chasing lizards and other things. As we are walking back to the house Ava starts giggling and saying "Look, Lizard!" pointing towards the garden gate. And the dog is pulling me so hard to go over and eat it.  I look over and it is not a lizard, but is a HUGE scorpion! I have never seen one this big. I pick up some big rocks and chuck them at the thing. I hit it a few times but it just wasn't dying. Then it runs right in front of us and hides under a rock.

I ran and put Ava and the dog back in the house, grabbed a pick axe and head back out. I told Tyler it was huge, but he probably thought I was exaggerating...

Anyway I saw which rock it went under so I used the pick to flip it over. There it was in defense mode. I used the flat part of the axe to cut it in half then hit it again to make sure it was dead. I knew the guys wouldn't believe me about how big it was so I used the axe to scoop it up and lay it out on the concrete. I had to measure it too...yeah it was 4 inches long. So gross.

Ahhh, desert living...

Mmmm! I can't believe you took that thing on! I would have stayed locked in the house till Mark came home. Nice job and I'm glad you took a picture.

I love Ava's bed. It's so cute! Is it a crib that you set up as a toddler bed or just a toddler bed?

That thing was scary...I was screaming while smashing it!

Ava's bed is just a toddler bed, you can use the headboard for a full size bed, but it doesn't turn into a crib.

EEEWWW! SO gross! You are so brave to be the one to kill it, I'm totally proud of you! I have found TWO baby scorpions, IN MY HOUSE! Ick! Even though they were small it made me want to vomit to think of where they must have come from!

That is both awesome and hilarious.
My friend who lives in Vegas got stung 7 times by a scorpion a few weeks ago.

I had something really rediculously witty to write a week ago when I read this, but I've forgotten it. Good job.

ohh MONICA! I have to tell you how hard I laughed!! I have tears on my cheeks right now because I tried explaining it to Mark. You killed a scorpion with a PICK AXE! You are awesome. :D And such a good guardian of your daughter and parents' dog! They are lucky to have you around. :) I am so glad that thing is chopped up into tiny pieces. You are the GREATEST. And so brave.

I just had a scary encounter with a scorpion of at least that same size out at Lake Mead this weekend! I was cooking marshmallows over the fire when the sucker crawled right between my feet - it was less than an inch from my right foot!! I have never jumped, screamed, and moved so fast in my life! Tyler was shocked!! We have never seen a scorpion out at the lake before. I am just glad we had arranged to sleep on the boat instead of tenting it! They are disgusting!!! I can totally relate to your encounter! Accept in my story, my brother smashed the nasty thing!
