Happenings

I have been meaning to post this allllll week, but it has been busy. I had the frenum on my lower lip/gums lasered off at the dentist Monday (to hopefully avoid further recession...) and spent the next 3 days on a liquid diet, trying not to starve to death and feeling like I had Botox because I couldn't move my lips right.

Then Wednesday was the last day of school! I didn't take any pictures :( Nathan had a great year and we are so proud of him. He had the best teacher he could have had this year. She is certified as a "gifted" teacher and made sure to keep him challenged all year. I am so thankful for her and the extra effort she made so he wouldn't be bored. He was so sad the last day. BUT he is really excited for his teacher for next year. He already knows her from going to reading group in her class, and I just found out that she won Teacher of the Year for Utah a few years ago...pretty cool!

Last Sunday was the Annular Solar Eclipse, and this part of Utah had some of the best places to watch it from. We were super excited that the eclipse was going to be so visible from our backyard! I bought our glasses weeks in advance and Nathan had been asking when it was going to happen forever. We had just been planning on watching from our yard, but then my brother said there was this great place by his house. There is this trail right next to their house that leads up to the hill by the old airport here in town.

Josh & Sarah(and Zoie) got there before us to set up his gear and we were so glad they did because more people got there the same time as we did. Ava was being a huge stinker that day and I was so tired from being up all night with a hurty tummy, but I am so glad we toughed it out and went.

People came from all over to see this. My brother ran into people from California that came just to watch. The last solar eclipse I saw was when I was in Elementary school, and I still remember it. When the moon was almost centered the temperature dropped very noticeably. We had all been baking and then all of a sudden it was cold and the light around us looked so cool~ I don't know how to explain it but it felt it so soft and glow-y. We even had double shadows! It was awesome.

This is where Josh wanted us to hike to originally:

But Sarah knows I am a wuss, and they found this spot instead:

All of the crazies, minus me

Ava's glasses wouldn't stay on, so I had to take my headband off for her to use. This was probably the only time she sat still with her glasses on.

Nathan on the other hand loved every second of it. He especially loved being able to look at it zoomed in on Josh's camera.

Even Zoie enjoyed it.

Josh took pictures every few minutes and put this together:

It didn't ever get dark during the process even though the pictures make it look that way, but this is how it looked through the glasses, so cool! Thanks Josh & Sarah for inviting us to watch it with you!

That's awesome!!! I've always wanted to see one of those.

Ohhh, I've had to have that done to my gums, too. The top ones. Nothing like the smell of burning flesh, huh. *GAG* Ugh, I can still smell it in my mind. I hope you feel better soon!!!

That is so fun that you guys had such a great place to watch it from - we were in Yellowstone, which was of course up to far, but we kept pulling over to just barely look at it (no glasses) so we had to be really quick and infrequent about it. :P Is that Eric in the bottom left chAir? (Sorry.. Emmy's pLAYINg with mY CAPSLOCK BUTTON). :) HAHA!

Nice eclipse pics! Funny that you were baking and we were freezing during it. I need to edit our telescope pictures...

Madelyn's kindergarten teacher won Teacher of the Year for Utah this year. I'm so glad our kids have been well taught. I can't believe they're going to be in SECOND GRADE!!!!
