Brave Boy

A while back I talked about how Nathan had an extra (Supernumerary tooth). His was a pointy one. The dentist said he had one little girl that grew a premolar up in between her two front teeth. Anyway the dentist had said at our last checkup that if the tooth became visible he could extract it, if not and oral surgeon would have to take it out. The x-ray showed that it was further down than the real permanent tooth so the dentist and I figured that by the time the baby tooth fell out that the tip of the tooth would be visible and he would be able to take it out. Only catch- Nathan would have to be seen on the same day as the baby tooth was lost before the gum tissue healed.

The baby tooth has been SO wiggly and with UEA weekend coming up I decided to call the dentist last week and see what we should do. We decided to have him wiggle it a lot, and made an appointment. They told me to pull the baby tooth the day of the appointment and so I did.

It was a nerve-wracking day. Pulling teeth is the worst. Nathan had a blessing before school this morning, and asked for me to pray with him before pulling his tooth. (He is such a sweet, sensitive soul). I put some baby orajel on the gums around it and hugged him tight. He didn't even cry! They had rescheduled our appointment at the last minute so I had to check him out of school, come home and pull the tooth, and leave right then. The procedure only took 30 mins! We seriously have the BEST dentist. They include nitrous with all of those types of procedures, and are just so awesome. I watched the entire thing (except for when I had to curl into a ball and close my eyes because I was so scared for him....)

Nathan said it only hurt when the dentist "pinched my lip really hard." He was really doing the local anesthetic and I guess it only felt like a pinch.

I just feel like all our prayers were answered with this today. The extra tooth was perfectly visible, there was just enough room in between the permanent tooth and extra tooth for the dentist to work, pain was minimal, and he is already feeling so much better! Poor kid- losing two teeth within an hour of each other.

His upper gums had been SO swollen- and this is why! (Hopefully this doesn't gross you out)

LOOK AT THE ROOT ON THAT THING! So he had the baby tooth (pic on the left), and then above it was the permanent tooth AND extra tooth (center) stuck up in his gums! I am so glad that thing is out of there!

I had a supernumerary tooth in between my 2 front teeth! I got it removed when I was like 6 or something. All I remember is that my mom took me to get a milkshake on the way home and I was happy. :)
