Isn't this picture so crazy?? Ava took it the other day while messing with the camera.
Whoa, we have been busy....Here's a little of what I've been up to.
This week I got a job. It was so random how it happened. I was talking to a lady in the ward about how we should get our girls together for a playdate. The next morning I had an email from her asking me if I wanted to be her new nanny because the one she had just hired wasn't working out. I was so excited because now that Nathan is in school all day Ava is just so bored. So now she gets to play with her friend, I get to hold a cute new baby, and get paid for it! On Tuesday I had the day off which worked out perfect for me since I had apples to do.
A huge truckload of apples was coming to town, and we had to pick them up that morning. My Dad went with me since he wanted some too, and we were picking some up for my grandparents and a sister in our ward. We got there and started filling up our boxes right away. We ended up leaving with 180 lbs of fresh yummy apples (only 52 lbs of them were mine). They were so cheap that we loaded our boxes as full as we could! I came home and got started right away on my bottling them. It was a LONG day, but I am so excited to add them to our food storage. After 10 hours, I ended up with 8 quarts of pie sliced apples - but one broke when I put it in the canner :( and 8 quarts of applesauce. I should have taken a picture of the kitchen. It looked like a bomb went off in there.
I've bottled fruit lots of times before, but NEVER without any help, ok I had some help. The kids love the applesaucer and it really is a multiple person job because it doesn't clamp on to the beveled granite very well, so they had fun mushing the apples while I turned the handle. I love that I am able to pass down the old pioneer ways to my kiddos, while making them yummy, healthy food- even if it is hard work!
BEFORE:
52 lbs of Fresh Gala Apples
DURING:
Making some sauce, haha silly Ava

That.Is.AWESOME!!! You are so brave! I am seriously TERRIFIED to can anything! And congratulations on the new job! That sounds perfect! I wish I could get a job...it sucks living month to month. I've been trying to sell jewelry and stuff...we'll see how that goes. I think I'd rather be a nanny! Especially with a little baby! :)
This is Sarah - you are so great. I haven't tried canning yet. My mother in law just brought me a bunch of pears and peaches though. Congrats on the job. I bet that will be a perfect fit for you!

Jeesh, I still can't believe you did all that in one day!!
We go through a lot of apples here because Luke likes to take one or two bites out of one, and then get a fresh one....
that is a very cool photo! Go Ava! She has your family's artistic flair, I guess. :) I love your canning! I would love to do that. Soon, I say, soon!! I'm so impressed by you. Wish you could show me how you do it! I've only canned jellies with my grandma. Never fruit before! I guess I should learn really quick!
